Abstract
A weapon training system uses a mist or smoke simulator device to have the effect of reducing visibility in the line of vision. The observer (E) looks through the end of an optical fibre bundle (F) towards a screen carrying an image (I) representing e.g. a scenic background. This is interrupted by a liquid crystal arrangement (C) which provides the smoke effect. The liquid crystal units has electrodes which are connected momentarily to an alternating voltage which produces the required effect. The frequency of the alternating voltage is selected to suit the crystals, and this voltage is modulated by one or two superimposed signals. The first signal can be modulated by a trapezoidal signal.
