Abstract

The embrella type canopy for e.g. a kiosk comprises a fixed mast (1) carrying a mobie mast (3), and return pulleys (11, 12) for pairs of cables (14) which tie between the top of mast (1) and a collar (15) which slides along mobile mast (3). Telescopic roof canvas support ribs (17, 18) are pivoted on the top of mobile mast (3). The ribs (17, 18) are extended during mobile mast (3) ascent by the sliding collar (15) and mast (3) displacement controls. The mobile mast (3) has hollow collars (6, 7) at its foot and top housing the return pulleys (11, 12). The ribs are typically hollow square and inverted 'U' section and the struts comprise lightly cranked arms (21) pinned to the ribs and to the sliding collar (15), with stays (24) pinned to the cranked arms (21) and the top of the mobile mast.
