Abstract

A radiation derector is described in which one or more derectors are fixed w.r.t. a radiating system. It comprises an enclosure with flat electrodes (4, 5) orientated onto the radiating system, the enclosure being filled with an electrically insulating medium, e.g. a gas - pref. xenon. The derector operates in the Townsend plateau region. The enclosure contains two high tension electrodes (4) between which is a collecting electrode (15). Another gas may be added to the main gas in order to increase the elector capture power of the derector. Various alternative electrode configurations are described.
