Abstract
The gases and vapours produced by the pyrolytic decomposition of industrial and domestic refuse are made innocuous by cracking at 1000 degrees C by passage across a molten neutral salt bath. They are converted to a combustible gas which is then freed by scrubbing from the residual components (HCl, H2S, NH3 etc.). This system requires only little capital investment, and the combustible gas is used for firing the revolving furnace for the refuse.
