Abstract

The incoming lignite is separated into two batches, the first of lumps bigger than a given size, and the second smaller. The first batch is delivered to a reducing unit producing lumps smaller than the given size. These, together with those in the second batch, are delivered to a first receiving unit. A second receiving unit is also provided, to which the first batch can be alternatively directed, the flow from the separator to the reducer unit being simultaneously interrupted. The reducer can incorporate a mechanism dividing the incoming material lumps into sizes greater and smaller than a second predetermined figure.
