Abstract

A carpet is advanced pile downwards over a platform by passage between feed rolls and then between the nip of a upper and lower brush rollers a cleaning fluid (e.g. soapy water and a foam cleaner) being sprayed from nozzles onto the carpet between the feed rolls and brush rollers. Downstream of the brush rollers rinsing fluid (e.g. hot and cold water) is sprayed from nozzles onto the carpet before it is advanced through the nip of a pair of squeezer rolls. A max. cleaning effect is achieved without having to subsequently re-dress the pile.
