Abstract
325 Mesh hydrated aluminous material (Al2O3. 3H2O) contg. size 10 microns contg. >=95% Al2O3, and -325 mesh hydrated aliminosilicate (kaolin clay) av. size 5 microns contg. >=95% Al2O3 + SiO2 are calcined at 750-1150 degrees C and milled to an av. size 5 microns. The materials are mixed to give 65-80 pts. Al2O3 to each 20-35 pts. SiO2 and fired (>=1700 degrees C). The fired product contains >95% Al2O3 + SiO2. The mixture may be formed prior to calcining and the calcined mixture compacted before firing. Used as grain for ramming or casting or shaped blocks for glass tanks, blast furnace stoves, burners, kiln furniture and radiant heat combustion tubes.
