Abstract
Coating compsn. in one package for application to materials such as wood, metals, glass, fabrics, plastics, and foams, is prepd. by (a) preparing a polyester polyol from (I) an alcoholic component having an av. functionality of >=1.9, and (II) an acidic component consisting essentially of >=1 monomeric 2-14 C carboxylic acids/anhydrides having an av. functionality of >=1.9, the polyol contg. 0.01-1 mole of cpds. having a functionality of >=3 per 500 g., (b) reacting the polyester polyol with an org. polyisocyanate, (c) stopping the reaction when the intrinsic viscosity of the reaction mixt. is less than 1.0 dl/g, in order to form a non-gelled hydroxylated urethane pdt., and (d) adding an aminoplast resin to the reaction pdt.
