Abstract

Tubular filter element for gases in which the gas inlet leads to a cross-section where the area available for passage of gass is suddenly reduced very considerably compared with the cross-section being presented in the form of very small holes (e. g. 4) through which gas is compressed as filaments from which droplets of condensate separate on the outlet side of the holes to be trapped in the retention zone of an absorbent pad of spongy material just downstream of the reduced cross-section. The filter is used for filtering condensable pollutants from fumes and gases, particularly as a filter-tip element for cigars, cigarettes, pipes and cigarette-holders to filter out noxious substances from burning tobacco. The element, or tip, is very cheaply made but highly efficient.
