Abstract
Waste H2O contg. S2- is mixed with a hydrocarbon film, in a wt. ratio of 0.1 to 6.0 and partially oxidized with an O2-rich gas in the reaction zone of a free-flow non-catalytic synthesis gas generator at 1500 degrees-3500 degrees F and 1-250 atmos press. to give an effluent of H2, CO, CO2 and H2O with minor amounts of H2S, CH4, A, N2, COS and C particles. Pref. the C particles are separated and the H2S recovered from the synthesis gas leaving the separator. The process is used to treat sour H2O, treated sour S2O and other H2O from petroleum refining and petrochemical mfr. The process has the advantages that these is less pollution on disposing the S2 free H2O into lakes and rivers, than with process that stripped sulphides from the H2O by air, steam or by oxidn. to S2O32- and there is less air pollution. PhOH is also destroyed by this process.
