Abstract

An aq. rosin emulsion of pH opt. >6 used for binding cellulose fibres in paper prodn., contains a protective PVA colloid or a mixt. of colloids contg. >=50% PVA with a hydrolysis degree (in mole %) of 70-95 and a 4% aqw. soln. viscosity of 10-50 cPs at 20 degrees C. The emulsion can be prepd. without necessarily working within a sharply defined pH rangem can be used and stored in acid form, has good shear resistance, can be diluted processed under weakly acid conditions without adding or with addition of only small amts. of Al sulphate or other salts which adversely affect the mech. props. of prepn. Pptn. of the rosin can be affected under neutral of slightly alkaline conditions or with certain optical brighteners.
