Abstract

Construction of various profiles of Archimedean screw by mounting a series of individual vanes along a shaft, successive vanes being circumferentially staggered to produce a helical progression with overlapping support of each vane by >=1 other. The vanes should be keyed to the shaft by injection of a binder resin to flood the interfaces. The vanes may have a polygonal bore to restrict the degree of lateral displacement. Assembly may incorporate vanes of different materials, esp. alternating blades of stainless steel and of glass fibre reinforced resin (polyester). To facilitate impregnation alternate blades may be of non impregnated glass which can be resin loaded at the same time as the shaft keys. Many different screw profiles can be constructed by changing the degree of vane overlap and/or the vane thickness.
