Abstract

The method consists of lifting the old sleepers and laying the new ones by means of lifting apparatus attached to a sleeper-exchanging machine which is in turn coupled to the back of a string of trucks rolling on the track to be replaced, and of simultaneously circulating along these trucks, in opposite directions, the new sleepers initially stored in the trucks and the old sleepers. Both the new and old sleepers circulate at the same level along the string of trucks, being oriented in such a way that their axis coincides with that of the trucks.
