Abstract

A band (4) encircling the building (1) consists of a flexible metal cable, with two ends anchored in the ground. A groove in the panels forming the sides of the house and roof-timbering, encloses the cable (4). The principal rafter (11) supported by a tie-beam (12) has a groove in which extends down a vertical upright (13). Each metal cable is anchored to the masonry f the foundation (14), by means of a ring and cable-clamps (16). The ring is connected by means of a tension-piece (17) to another ring (18) embedded in iron (19) in the foundations (14). The tension-piece (17) is accessible from the outside back of the house (1). A stay (22) fixed between the ground and one of the house-walls, provides extra solidity.
