Abstract

Compsn. for topical application comprises 1-25 wt.% acetylsalicylic acid (I), pref. of particle size 20 mu, and 75-99 wt.% of a therapeutically-inert, hydrophilic lipophilic penetrant vehicle (II), esp. one which, in a 25% (I) compsn., permits the absorption of 100-1000 ug. (I) per cm.2 of skin in is not >=3 min. (I) is a well-known antipyretic, analgesic and antirheumatic. In this form (I) acts more rapidly than when given orally or rectally and the side effects of oral ingestion are avoided.
