Abstract

A blind made from long thin blades suspended from above has chains between the blades so that they may be pulled back by a system of cords into a stacked position at one end of a track, or extended into a position in line across e.g. a window. The blades can be rotated to pass light through, or brought edge to edge to block the light. Each vertical blade is attached at the top to a carriage running on wheels along an inverted channel shaped guide and each carriage has a vertical spindle through it. A toothed wheel at the top of the spindle engages a rack also supported by sheels to travel inside the upper port of the guide and moved to pull cords. This rack and pinion system rotates the blades and disconnects the drive when the blades touch.
