Abstract
This flying machine provides personal transport and could help to reduce congestion on the roads. It consists of a ducted axial flow oift fan in a horizontal plane, with a blade ring which surrounds the cockpit and eng: engine compartment. The blades are fixed to an annular channel section by their inside edges and the channel rotates in the, horizontal plane between pairs of bearings mounted on the main structure. This structure also supports a ducted propeller, which can be angled for control and to offset the torque reaction of the main rotor, whilst providing thrust. Both lift fan and propeller are driven through gears from an engine mounted on the fore and aft centre line. The ducting of the main fan produces an air cushion for operation close to the ground.
