Abstract

A device is described for automatically and continuously feeding liq. metal to furnaces supplying die-casting machines comprising a die with a feed tube immersed in liq. metal in a crucible of a holding furnace, the metal being supplied from a heated feed tank. The device comprises a valve with a chamber connected to a first tube immersed in the metal in the holding furnace and to a second tube immersed in the metal in the heated feed tank, this chamber communicating with a three-way tap connected to a vacuum and to a pressurised inert gas source, this chamber also contg. a control gauge to limit the level of liq. metal by controlling the vacuum. The crucible is supplied with liq. metal when required without affecting the die casting. When commencing the casting the crucible is supplied with metal directly without using a ladle. The metal can be degassed in the holding furnace by purging with a neutral gas.
