Abstract
Parent patent describes an ion exchange water softener with resin chamber and salt compartment and a pilot valve sliding in a fixed valve cylinder to establish different flow circuits for the softening and the regeneration operations, in partic. flow circuits incling a reverse flow passage formed on the outside of the cylinder and through which water flows in opposite directions during the softening and regeneration operations. In the addn. the reverse flow passage is formed axially down the middle of the pilot valve. Mfr. of the flow regulating assembly is simplified by using an axial passage inside the pilot valve rather than a channel outside the cylinder.
