Abstract

The containers, typically jam jars, tins etc. are loaded into boxes travelling up a ramp below them. The containers move forward on a section of track (1) in one or two rows and between feed rotors (3) handling one transverse row of them at a time. These deliver them between a pair of endless belts or chains (5) with driving lugs compressing the rows between them and running in synchronism with the box conveyor. This raises the boxes until their bases are in contact with those of the containers, whereupon the chains or belts move apart in order to release the latter. The feed rotors can be in the form of Maltese-cross-section spiders running in synchronism with the chains and engaging with the containers one by one.
