Abstract

In the purification of phosphoric acid impurities are opt. reduced from a higher valency state and cationic form to a lower valency state and anionic form and the mixt. is then extd. to separate cationic impurities followed by extn. of anionic impurities with a water insol. solvent. Processes enable removal of impurities such as vanadium and chromium. Reduction is affected by a sulphide or a metal. The first extn. is made with a 4-8C alcohol or ethoxide pref. an exo-alcohol, and the second with a 18-60C-secondary or tertiary amine. In the second extn. the amine may be diluted with 5-20% of a 7-18C monohydric alcohol esp. an oxo alcohol. Finally the product if coloured may be treated with H2O2 or activated C.
