Abstract
Multicellular matls. are prepd. from a mixt. comprising (1) a prepolymer based on acpd. contg. imide gps., (2) a blowing agent, and (3) a surface active agent. A granulate is prepd. from the mixt. after pre-expansion to at most 90% (pref. 60-85%) of the fully expanded vol. after which the granular matl. is placed in a mould and complete expansion and cure of the prodt. is achieved by heating. The prepolymer is obtd. from a cpd. contg. imide gps. selected from: (a) a bis-imide of formula (I): and (b) a mixt. contg. (I) and a mono-imide of formula (II): (where D represents a divalent residue of formula: ; where Y = H, CH3 or Cl, and m = 0 or 1; A is a divalent gp. contg. 2-30C, and R is H or a 1-20C monovalent gp.), which ir reacted with an aminised cpd. chosen from (i) one or more polyamines with 2-5 pri. or sec. amino gps., at least one of which is pri. and (ii) a mixt. contg. cpds. ot type (i) and one or more pri., and/or sec. monoamines and/or one or more sec. polyamines.
