Abstract
The parent patent described a heat exchanger which consists of a bundle of tubes arranged in concentric layers in cylindrical shell, each tube being shaped so as to form a series of quasi-sinusoidal waves, having its ends fitted into annular plates and being held at several transverse planes by concentric rings with tie-pieces. According to the present invention, the heat exchanger incorporates supplementary rings and tie-pieces at the planes of the peaks of the waves, so that the tubes can be displaced when they expand by being heated without coming into contact with one another. In an alternative arrangement, the tubes are formed so that alternate peaks in one sense are outside the axis of symmetry, the other peaks in that sense being on the axis and the peaks in the other sense being on a line parallel to it. The invention prevents the tubes from rotating about their axes, as they could when installed as described in the original patent.
