Abstract

A device for dispersing a powdered solid into a liquid includes a funnel shaped channel whose walls are formed by films of the liquid and into which the powder is dispensed, so that it does not touch the walls of the vessel. The liquid and solid are mixed at this point in the ratio desired in the final product. The mixt. is conveyed to the inlet of a mechanical mixing device which exerts a slight suction at the inlet so that the liquid/solid mixt. is aerated as it enters the mixer. The device is used in the dispersion of thickeners, starch, and flour, proteins such as gelatine, albumen and dried milk in water, as well as the dispersion of all solids having a high solubility in the liquid in which they are to be dispersed. The device prevents clogging by damp conglomerations of solids and is simple and inexpensive.
