Abstract
In a material with controlled porosity, consisting of a dispersion of heat-resisting substances (pref. including 10% min. ceramic fibres) in a refractory cement, and with high resistance to repeated thermal shock, the new feature is that the material is fired without sintering, using a temp. below 1000 degrees C., the retained porosity being responsible for the high shock-resistance. The heat-resisting substances include lamellar alumina, corundum stabilised ZrO2, SiC and the fibres can be a cpd. of Al2O3-SiO2, ZrO2, Al2O3, a Si cpd. or a mixt. of these fibres. The materials are made by a wet process consisting of mixing a refractory cement with the heat-resisting substances and water, then adding an emulsifier and stabiliser before moulding, drying and firing.
