Abstract

The joint comprises a femoral head section with a rotary tip and a cotyloidian cup accommodating thin articular housing. It oscillates about an axis (x - x) inclined at 20 deg. To the horizontal, so that when under load the spherical surfaces do not move in relation to each other, and consequently no wear takes place. The femur can be arranged to oscillate on a roller bearing inside the articular block, the bearing inner race being removable, and secured by a screw to the femoral prosthesis. The sphere can be so arranged as always to be free to rotate. The articular housing can be of a constant thickness of 3mm.
