Abstract

The objects are arranged in piles and layers, and are held together by plastic strips stretched round them at the level of their touching faces. The objects (1) are placed between two pairs of reels of plastic strips (8a-c) and four paws of movable jaws (10a-c) (14a-c). At the start of the process the strips from reels (8a) and (8b) are joined together, as are those from reels (8c) and 8d). The jaws (10) draw these two lengths round the objects, weld them together and cut off the band so formed, leaving lengths of strip between the rels at right angles to the original lengths. A second band is applied using the other jaws (14). The pile of objects so that the strips can be applied in the required positions.
