Abstract

The bearing support base has an annular groove (1a) in its upper face concentric with the centrifuge axis. A soft iron ring (4) is in the base of this groove and two rectangular section annular magnets (2) (either permanent or electro-) lie on this ring with polarities reversed, and a void between them. An annular assembly composed of two concentric magnetic rings (8a) united by a coplanar non-magnetic ring (8b) is held above the magnets by supports. The base of the rotor has two extended concentric rings (6b) positioned to line up with the magnetic spacers, completing the magnetic field (7) and is separated from the magnetic spacers by a sealing membrane (11). The damping effect is obtained by the movement of visions fluid beneath the membrane.
