Abstract

A viscometer with flow-off allows viscosity measurement by both 'inverse' (filling) and 'direct' (emptying) methods. The measuring of a fixed volume of liquid flowing through the apparatus is by the liquid breaking light beams, to photo-electric cells which start and stop a timing device. Coupled to the timer is a calculator which multiplies the time by the viscometer constant to give the viscosity, having a visual or printed display. Orifices allowing flow-off of the liquid are used for automatic washing and drying of the apparatus between measurements. Used for the measurement of viscosity of oils, petroleum products and other liquids. Automatic timing of a fixed volume, coupled with automatic washing and drying between measurements makes it simple and quick to operate.
