Abstract

A mixt. of silicate minerals, esp. natural quartz and filaspar in pegmatitic rock, is separated by first attacking the mixt. with hydrogen fluoride or hydrofluoric acid, or opt. ammonium fluoride then electrostatically separating by bombarding the mixt. with ions by means of a mobile propelling device, esp. a rotor, onto which certain of the minerals have a tendency to become selectively and temporarily fixed. A selection ratio of nearly equal 10:1 is obtd. compared with about 3:1 for prior art methods, while the process does not involve use of a surfactant.
