Abstract
A press for separating solids from liqs. by filtration consists of a central core, side plates and filter plates. The assembly is held by bolts by which the gaps between the faces of the core and plates can be adjusted. The filter plates have grooves and filtrate collection basins connecting to filtrate outlet pipes. Each face of the core is covered by an impermeable flexible membrane held by a ring on the edge of a movable circular frame which is mounted in a groove in the core opposite the rim of the filter plate. The bottoms of the grooves are connected by a pipe to an inlet of a liquid under press, and joints ensure fluid-tightness. Return springs distributed around the core are connected to eyebolts in the core and movable circular frames. The centre of each membrane is held tight on the face of the core by a collar and a hollow bolt. A feed pipe for liq. to be filtered passes through the hollow bolts and is connected to an inlet pipe. A further feed pipe conected to another inlet pipe can admit a fluid under press. behind the membranes. The side plates carry rollers which transport endless filter cloths by perforations registering with teeth on the driven rollers. Plates bear against the filter cloths to srape off filter cake on to a discharge belt. The filter cells formed between the membranes on the faces of the core and the surfaces of the filter plates by the frames are closed and opened by fluid press. and springs, and the filter cake is removed, automatically, giving simpler operation, and higher productivity and yield than conventional filter presses and the cake is thinner, requiring less operating press.
