Abstract

The alloy contains in wt. % 0.05 to 0.20 Si, 0.15-0.4 Fe, 0.15-0.3 Cu, 0.10-0.30 Mn, 0.6-1 Mg, 0.04-0.12 Cr, bal. Al, and is homogenised at 1000-1125 degrees F for 4 to 24 hrs after heating at 100 degrees F/hr. It is then hot rolled to sheet which will form an anodic film between 0.5 and 1.5 mils thick the colour of which may be varied between light gold and black by adjustment of operating parameters. After hot rolling the sheet may be cold rolled below 250 degrees F. Pref. for colour uniformity the soaking temp. of separate ingot batches should not vary by more than 30 degrees F.
