Abstract

The turbine wheel (1) is suspended at the end of a vertical shaft and is provided with buckets (2). The distributor (3) supplies water to the nozzles (4) which direct the jets of water onto the buckets (2). The water deflected by the upper half of each bucket (2) is guided by the housing (5) and vane (6) away from the turbine wheel and so does not interfere with the water issuing from the nozzles (4) and the efficiency of the turbine is increased. Under no-load conditions the speed of the turbine tends to increase but because the space (7) is less than the inelt to the guide (6) the free flow of water is restricted, preventing excessive overspeed of the turbine.
