Abstract

The jack has a cylinder inside which a piston moves freely, with at least one inlet port for the pressurized fluid acting on one of the piston's faces and for fluid exhaust. The piston-rod conveys to a part of a machine or to a counterweight the movement and the energy received from the expanding fluid. Both the cylinder and the piston cross-sections are elliptical. The main advantage of this is a better use of confined spaces in which the jack has to be fitted and in which the corresponding circular section jack yields less power.
