Abstract

The polymsn. of isoprene is prevented by the addition of 0.01-1 wt.% of o-nitrophenol, depending on the amt of impurities present, the temp etc. Pref. the o-nitrophenol is added as a soln in isoprene to the crude reaction product from the dehydrogenation of isopentane and decomposition of dimethyl-4,4-dioxane-1,3 and the mixture purified conventionally. Prevents blocking of purifn. appts. since any polymsn. leads to soluble low mol.wt. oligomers.
