Abstract

The aq. sulphuric acid soln. for the extraction of nonferrous metals from roasted sulphide ores by leaching is obtd. by mixing SO2 gases produced during the roasting process and cleaned of solid residues, with an O-contg. gas, maintaining the gas mix. at 400-600 degrees C until at least a portion of SO2 has been converted into SO3. The SO3 is absorbed by the spent leaching solution to form fresh aq. sulphuric acid soln. for the extraction of Cu from sulphide ores contg. Fe.
