Abstract
Electrodes for fuel cells, having better resistance to O2 and to embrittlement by H, better resistance to wetting even after long use and better electrical and thermal conductivity, consists of two layers. The first consists of pyrolytic C coated carbonised paper impregnated with 25-80, pref. 60 wt % of a hydrophobic plastic pref. PTFE. The second layer consists of a hydrophobic plastic, pref. PTFE, and a catalyst. This layer in an O2 electrode consists of 75 wt % Pt and 25 wt % PTFe and is 4 mg/cm2 thick, while in an H2 electrode it is 2 mg/cm2 thick and consists of 32 wt % Pt, 32 wt % Rh, 16 wt % WO3 and 20 wt % PTFE.
