Abstract

The device consists of a chamber with walls able to support an internal vacuum, and suitable with walls able to scansion chamber for a beam of accelerated particles. The walls of the chamber are convex to the exterior forming a single smooth surface, of conoid shape, with no complicated braces to prevent collapse under vacuum. It is fixed at upper and lower ends to thick parallel collars, the upper pref. circular. The beam of particles passes into the chamber from the upper collar through an oval shaped guide tube fixed both to that collar and to another collar on the accelerator itself, being deflected into the guide tube by an electro-magnetic field across this tube.
