Abstract

Agents for treatment of infections caused by the growth of rhinovirus contain an active amount of a cpd. of formula (f): (where Y is CHR2, CR2:CR2, or CHR2. CHR2. CHR2; R is H or lower alkoxy; R1 is H or lower alkyl; R2 is H or OH) distributed in an inert carrier. Cpds. (I) where R = lower alkoxy and Y = COH:COH, can be prepd. by reacting (I; Y = CHOH, CHOH), with NaIO4 and dimerising the aldehyde formed. Cpds. (I) where R = lower alkoxy and Y = CHOH. CH2. CHOH, can be prepd. from 2,4-dihydroxyglutaric acid with a 4-R-o-phenylenediamine.
