Abstract

Thixotropic suspensions stable in storage, contain (a) in the dispersed phase, a prepolymer obtained by reaction between a N,N'-bis-imide of an unsatd. dicarboxylic acid of formula: in which D is a divalent organic radical contg. one C-C double bond and A is a divalent organic radical of 2-30C and a polyamine of formula R(NH2)x in which x is a whole number at least 2, and R is an organic radical of valency x, the quantity of bis-imide being 0.55 to 25 moles per NH2 of the polyamine, and (b) water, pref. mixed with a water-miscible polar organic solvent of b.pt. 110 degrees - 270 degrees C and consisting of up to 50% of the liquid phase. The polymer hardens between 100 and 220 degrees C to products with good electrical and mechanical properties. Used for electrical insulation and for bonding mineral fibres.
