Abstract
Redn. of pelleted ore, partic. iron ore, roasted on a continuously moving grate, by causing the layer of hot ore pellets at the outlet from the oxidising combustion zone and after cooling, to flow through >=1 H2 stream at 600-1100 degrees C, the layer of hot ore pellets is successively traversed by various independent H2 streams in successive, separate and adjacent zones, and then the prods. are cooled in a non-oxidising atmos., each H2 stream circulating in closed circuit, in which water is condensed out after the gas stream leaves the ore and make-up H2 is added, before re-heating and recycling through the ore.
