Abstract

A method of making thick-walled, rigid, composite objects having >=1 hard outer layer and >=1 layer, adjacent thereto, of polyacrylic hard foam or polymethacrylimide hard foam, is as follows: the layers of materials are stacked, bonded or unbonded together, and sufficient heat is applied to soften the external layer of the internal foam where it is in contact with the outer hard skin; simultaneously pressure is applied to flatten the foam layer in the softened region and is maintained until the surface layers harden and the foam is again cooled to below its softening temp. Pref. the various layers are bonded together during this pressing process.
