Abstract

Paint materials esp. primer paints are prepd. by (a) simultaneously dispersing (I) 50-250 pts. wt. pigment, and (II) a 15-25% soln. of 0.25-12.5 pts. wt. of a copolymer of vinyl chloride/vinyl acetate/unsatd. aliphatic acid contg. 0.3-3% carboxyl groups in an org. solvent, in (III) a 15-25% soln. of 100 pts. wt. chlorinated PVC, vinyl chloride/vinylidere chloride copolymer or a (partly saporified) vinyl chloride/vinyl acetate copopmer in an org. solvent, and (b) adding the pigment paste to a 40-80% soln. of 10-60 pts. wt. alkyd resin in an org. solvent. Paint has good resistance to agglomeration and sedimentation, and gives films with a high resistance to atmospheric conditions. Can be stored for long periods.
