Abstract

Herbicidal compsn. in the form of o/w emulsions contain 0.001-5 wt. % of a water-insoluble organic herbicide, 0.001-20 wt. % of an emulsifier, 0.001-15 wt. % of a hydrotrope and H2O to 100%, the herbicide being in the form of micelles with a dia. of 1000 angstroms. The herbicides is pref. a halogenated phenoxyalkanoic acid, an N,N-dialkyl,-2,6-dinitro-4-CF3-aniline or a thiocarbamate. The emulsifier is pref. an organic sulphate or sulphonate, a polyoxyethylated fatty alcohol, alkylphenol or sorbitan ester, or a trialkyl-phosphine oxide or -amine oxide. The hydrotrope is pref. a water-soluble organic sulphuric, sulphonic or carboxylic acid salt a ketone an alkanolamine, a glycol ether or an amide. The microemulsions obtained using the hydrotrope have a higher activity than conventional macroemulsions.
