Abstract

In the prod and rearing of fry of marine fish, esp sea perch and chrysophrys, in breeding tanks (a) the parent stock is given a diet rich in fats and vitamins to aid gonad development, with progressive control of the heating and illumination of the water in the tank in line with the values during the normal egg-laying period. of the fish, (b) artificial release of eggs from the females using a suitable stimulus, e.g. chorionic gonadetrophin, LH, FSH or pituitary extractions, (c) artificial and opt sequential collection of the ovules at the time of fertility for each type of fish, (d) fertilization of the eggs by known methods followed by controlled incubation involving temp, salinity, pH, dissolved oxygen, mitrate, phosphate, duration of daily illumination and aeration, and rearing of the larvae by controlled feeding, first with living food and then with living or dead food. More viable fish are produced than natural conditions permit where >99% of fry die in early stages of life.
