Abstract
In the parent patent, an alkylene oxidn. is reached with a hydroxylated reactant, in the presence of an alkaline catalyst while maintaining in the reaction media a concentration of OH similar to that of the required product. The reaction carried out at 100-160 degrees C. In the addition patent, the reactor is carried out using as the alkylene oxide, a mixture of ethylene oxide and propylene oxide, to give a product of formula RO(CH2-CH(X)-O)nH where X is statistically either H or CH3; n is a whole number between 1 and 200; R is H or a hydrocarbon radical. The hydroxylated reactant used as chosen from methanol, butanol octanol, hexadecanol. The products have good properties as lubricants and detergents and in making polyesters for polyurethane foams.
