Abstract

A tobacco stem is fed between two resilient, adjustably spaceable star wheels which strip off leaves all round the stem; essentially the stem passes between two opposed rotating feed rollers which reciprocate on their axes so as to impart a semi-rotary, reversing motion to the continuously advancing stem, which thus presents all sides to the stripping wheels. Stripped leaves are conveyed away and passed over a sizing gap to sort the leaves into two ranges of length.
