Abstract

A complex metal cyanide is prepd. from HCN and a metal compound. This cyanide is then reduced with H2 to give the pure metal or an alloy of two metals of the gps. mentioned, or binary or higher alloy of one of these metals with any other metal. Particularly useful for prepn of Be, Mg, Y and the lanthanides, Ti, Zr, Hf, Cr, Ga, In and Th.
