Abstract

A flattening device for laying out a textile web includes a work table on which the web is layed and a traversing carriage beneath the work table. Pref. several adjustable abutments are connected to the table and a counter-abutment carried by the carriage cooperates with one or other of the abutments to limit the traverse length of the carriage. The abutments or counter abutments can be moved to an inoperative position in which they are ineffective to cooperate to limit the transverse length of the carriage. Pref. each abutment includes a recess and the counter abutment includes a radial abutment arm into the recess. A handle actuated eccentric may act on a radical actuating arm to rotat the shaft against the action of the spring and remove the abutment arm from the recess. The traverse length of the carriage can be easily and rapidly adjusted to allow different lengths of web to be layed out.
