Compsns. contain: (where X is H or lower alkyl; r is NO2, CH3 or -COOX; Y is H, halogen, NO2 or OH). Cpds. are prepd. by the condensation of a salicyloyl chloride with a 3-amino benzoic acid. In an example, 43.8 pts. methyl 3-amino-5-CF3 benzoate was condensed with acetyl salicyloyl chloride in the presence of triethylamine. The product was saponified with NaOH to give (I) X = Y = H, R = 5-CF3, m.pt. 220 degrees C.
